Music in Our Federation: Be the Light – Sing, Create, Inspire

Music in our Federation is a vibrant and joyful journey that begins in the earliest years and continues through to Year 6. From playful rhythm games in Preschool to confident performances in Year 6, children are immersed in a rich musical experience that nurtures creativity, expression, and connection.

Our curriculum is designed to help children develop musical skills and understanding through singing, playing instruments, composing, and listening. As they progress, pupils build confidence in their abilities and learn to appreciate music as both an art form and a means of communication. Lessons are engaging, inclusive, and rooted in a wide variety of musical traditions, helping children explore the beauty and diversity of sound.

But music in our Federation goes far beyond the classroom. It is woven into the fabric of school life and celebrated in many forms. Children sing in Harvest and Christmas services, perform in end-of-year productions, and take part in our exciting Federation Music Mash-Up, where schools come together to share and celebrate their musical talents. During Global Spotlight Week, pupils experience music from around the world -from the thunderous energy of Japanese drummers to the joyful rhythms of Caribbean steel bands – fostering cultural awareness and global understanding.

Our commitment to music extends into the community. Pupils perform carols in the village square, take part in local music services, and enjoy accordion sessions with Mr Hinchcliffe, whose passion for music is at the heart of all our schools. These experiences help children develop stage presence, confidence, and a lifelong love of music.

Through music, we aim to nurture expressive, thoughtful individuals who understand the power of creativity and collaboration. Music helps our children connect with themselves, with others, and with the wider world — inspiring joy, empathy, and a sense of belonging.
