Niki Child, Parent Governor
I have had the great fortune of growing up in the Dales and attended Cracoe & Rylstone Primary School myself as a child. I left the area in my twenties to study and pursue a career in environmental strategy; working in Socially Responsible Investment in London during my early career, and later, leading sustainability for a global financial organisation. Like many, I returned to the Yorkshire Dales to start my own family, a move which also led to change in career and I’m now working as a conservation officer at the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and studying for an MSc in Arboriculture and Forestry.
I have three children at Cracoe School – two in KS1 and another in KS2. I joined the governing body in November 2017. As I work with local communities, I am acutely aware of the importance of our rural schools and the challenges facing them. My motivation to becoming a school governor has been driven by wanting to help sustain these communities in Upper Wharfedale. I hope to be able to contribute to keeping our wonderful schools viable and helping them be the best they can be.
